On 23rd September, at The St Ives Guildhall, as part of The St Ives September Festival, The Emerald Dawn with The Ascension Plan will provide an evening of progressive music.
The Emerald Dawn are a multi-instrumentalist, symphonic progressive rock trio, who combine elements from classical music, jazz and rock to produce their own original sound. Usually haunting, often beautifully melodic and always highly atmospheric, the music of The Emerald Dawn employs unusual harmonic structures to depict images or to tell stories that stimulate the imagination. While being complex, experimental, powerful, and occasionally challenging, their music is never inaccessible.
The Emerald Dawn was originally formed in Edinburgh by Tree Stewart (keyboards, piano, flute, acoustic guitar, percussion, and vocals) and Ally Carter (electric and acoustic guitars, guitar synthesizer, tenor and soprano saxophones, keyboards, and vocals), before moving to the South West, where they were joined by jazz drummer Tom Jackson. The band has been widely played on progressive rock radio stations around the world.
“Very, very atmospheric…all their tracks are a terrific soundscape…they manage to paint terrific aural pictures.” Jim Lawson, Cuillin FM
The Ascension Plan are riding high after their recent triumph at The Minack Theatre with The 50 Degrees choir and the inimitable Mimi Goese. With heart-soaring violin complementing superb vocals, this progressive folk four-piece has been described as warm and unusual, epic and ethereal, capable of bringing audiences to euphoric heights.
Originally formed by singer and guitarist Martin Jackson and drummer Nick McLeod, they added violinist Paul Adams and, for a while, backed the legendary Clive Palmer (co-founder of The Incredible String Band). Finally, they added jazz bassist mungo shoddy to complete their current line-up.
